Custom map drawing and illustration

These folks came to me via the Hallett Dock Co. map I’d done. They wanted something similar for their own docks and properties.

Natura Residencial map

This series of maps shows the development of the Korean War from June, 1950 through July, 1953. They were illustrated for a biography of Harold Stevens, a World War II and Korean War vet who spent several tours of duty throughout the “police action.”

One of a series of maps for the City of Duluth showing proposed plans for a kayaking, canoeing and nordic ice skating center. “Nordic ice skating”? Skating on natural, non-rink courses such as (in this case) the St. Louis River bay. Think of Holland and its canals in winter.

This rock picker’s map for Gooseberry State Park is from the original volume done by my field guide publishing company, Kollath+Stensaas Publishing: Rock Picker’s Guide to Lake Superior’s North Shore (yeah, kind of a long title). We’ve sold over 80,000 of these so maybe it looks familiar.

I recently did a huge series of maps for the City of Duluth highlighting and explaining the current push for increased recreational trail development within the city limits. Duluth mountain bike trails, for example, are gaining quite the national buzz: this trail system has won the International Mountain Bike Association’s Gold rating; one of only five in the world.

It’s great to work in a port city and do work for the actual port, the Duluth Seaway Port Authority. This one shows the Duluth port link with our trading partners in the EU.

This is from a brochure designed for Hallett Dock which runs three facilities in the Duluth-Superior harbor and is in the business of transloading bulk and liquid materials.

T-shirt art for finishers of the “Last Runner Standing” trail race at Spirit Mountain here in Duluth, Minnesota. This was a collaboration between my associate, Aurora Webster and me. I art directed it and worked on it, but nearly all of the illustration is hers. Nice work Aurora.
